Division of Prevention & Community Outreach Services
The Division of Prevention and Community Outreach develops, shares, and disseminates information and evidenced-based approaches that increase the public’s awareness associated with preventing health related problems. The Division of Prevention and Community Outreach Services administer three offices: Office of Health Promotion Services, Office of Community Outreach & Intervention Services, and the Office of Community Education, Training and Technical Assistance.
Office of Health Promotion
The Office of Health Promotion works to educate, inform, and empower Miami-Dade and other surrounding counties residents through evidence-based interventions and strategies that improve health outcomes. The Office enables people to increase control over their health. It offers a wide range of social and environmental interventions that are designed to benefit and protect individual people’s health and quality of life by addressing and preventing the root causes of ill health.
Individuals and the community receive preventive health information on such topics as blood pressure, cholesterol, HIV/AIDS, drug use, nutrition, physical activity, obesity, PrEP/PEP awareness and education, and other areas. Individuals are informed and counseled about their risk and referred or enrolled in lifestyle change programs and other communities.
Office of Community Outreach & Intervention Services
The Office of Community Outreach and Intervention Services delivers outreach services, and directly engage with the community. Additional services identified and offered are based on an analysis of community-wide needs assessments.
Office of Community Education, Training, & Technical Assistance
The Office of Community Education, Training and Technical Assistance offer educational and awareness programs to encourage and help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and other conditions. This Office offers educational and community-based programs (funded by grants) to encourage and enhance health and wellness by educating communities on topics such as chronic diseases, violence prevention, mental illness/behavioral health, unintended pregnancy, tobacco use, substance abuse, nutrition, physical activity, obesity prevention, and more. This Office sponsors health education training sessions or workshops in the clinic and community settings.
